Workshop – Lisa Ober – Try Pastel — Stick It to Drying Time

Try Pastel — Stick It to Drying Time
Lisa Ober, Instructor
Curious, impatient, or looking to add to your skillset? Whether you are crunched for time or want to branch out, Lisa invites you to a lively four-hour introduction to pastel during which she will guide painters through everything they need to confidently add pastel to their plein air toolkit.
We’ll start with essential pastel vocabulary, then explore major brands and their unique qualities. You’ll learn about surfaces and papers, useful underpainting techniques, and a variety of blending options and mark-making approaches. Lisa will then share her step-by-step method for pastel painting, followed by a look at helpful supplies and best practices for working efficiently in the field. She’ll also cover easy storage solutions for traveling, practical tips and tricks, pastel care, and framing considerations so your finished work is ready to show and sell.
Artists will also have the opportunity to create a pastel painting to experiment with techniques and materials. Please bring any pastels you own and Lisa will also have a variety of brands available for you to try. This workshop is perfect for oil, acrylic, and watercolor painters who are curious about a fast, versatile, and beautifully immediate medium gaining fast popularity and prestige.
