Great Washington Chalk Out for Kids!
The Art Council of Washington, in partnership with Neighborhood Reads bookstore and Augusta Plein Air Art Festival, will host an art contest for children and families from 3-5 pm on Saturday, April 27 in downtown Washington. The event is sponsored by Bank of Franklin County.
Children will use chalk to create art based on an assigned theme on the sidewalk around the bookstore at 401 Lafayette St. First place prizes will be awarded in the following categories: K-3, 4-6, 7-8, 9-12 and Family. The chalk drawing will be from 3-4:30 pm and prizes will be awarded at 5 p.m., following judging.
Registration will be in advance at NeighborhoodReads.com or in the bookstore. A fee of $5 will be collected at registration to hold a space, but will be returned to those who participate as a $5 gift certificate to the bookstore.
The event will coincide with the Augusta Plein Air Washington Paint-Out from 2-6 pm that day in Downtown Washington. Artists from across the country will be in Washington that day to paint local scenery. Neighborhood Reads will host a pop-up gallery featuring this work from Sunday, April 28 until noon on Saturday May 4. Paintings will be available for viewing and purchase.
